Biggest Sports Thrill: "It would be winning the 4x800 at New Balance Indoor Nationals (in New York City on March 14, 2015)."
Best advice I've ever received: "Don't be afraid of pushing your limits. You've already put in the work and your body will respond."
Last week's accomplishments: MacKay set a Utah state high school record with a time of 1:49.77 in the 800 meters at the Region 2 championships. The mark is also the fifth best time nationally this season. His effort helped the Davis boys secure their tenth straight league title.
MacKay on their performance: "The start of the year for me is cross country and we had a team ranked in the top five in the nation going into the race to qualify for nationals. We had a terrible race, so was hard to end on a bad note for cross country, but I used that race as motivation to never take any race for granted. It really changed the way I think about racing. It has really helped me this season. I need to push as hard as I can to get the results that I want. I knew I was in position to (break the 800 record). It really did surprise me how I was able to push even harder in the final 150 (meters). A lot of years of running has trained me to not feel that pain. From my sophomore year, I thought maybe I'd have a chance of breaking the record."
Coach Corbin Talley on MacKay: "Logan's race this past week was so exciting. He was running hard for that record and a sub-1:50 from start to finish. It was a display of strength, focus and guts. He has worked very hard for four years to get to this point and it's a lot of fun to see him running so well. Probably more impressive with Logan is the way he treats others. He is friendly to everyone, always cheering on and encouraging his teammates. He's been a great leader and example his whole time at Davis."
After High School: "I officially signed with BYU to run track and I'm going on an (LDS Church) mission to South Carolina in July. I want to go into business and public speaking."
