Last week's accomplishments: Cook has scored all seven Viewmont goals in its last three contests, including a pair of 2-1 playoff victories over Pleasant Grove and Mountain Crest. He has a team-best 19 goals on the year. The Vikings (6-3-3 Region 2, 11-3-3 overall) will face Lone Peak today at 4:15 in the class 5-A state semifinals.
Cook on their performance: "People didn't expect a lot from us as a young team with a new coaching staff. We started well in the preseason, but we kind of struggled toward the end (of region play). We went into the playoffs without momentum, but the playoffs are the playoffs and we've come away with two very big wins. My center forward, Preston Pitt, and attacking midfielder, Marshall Johnson, have been the greatest help this year, working hard and giving me a lot of amazing passes. Personally, I don't come into a game just looking to score goals. I want to do what's best for the team, but if scoring goals is what's best for the team, then I'll put it in the net. We're not pleased with where we're at right now; we're happy, but our job is to bring home a championship. Our focus is one game at a time starting with Lone Peak (today)."
Coach Spencer Keddington on Cook: "He has a ton of talent. Whether it's on free kicks or set plays, he has a nose for getting the ball into the back of the net. This year he's become way more consistent. We know we can count on him when we need a big goal and he seems to deliver. When he's on the ball, he's better than a lot of kids. He's always had that, but what's set him apart this year is his consistent effort. He won't be denied."
After High School: "I'd like to get a soccer scholarship."
